Insomniac Presents Nocturnal: Day One Recap

Insomniac Presents Nocturnal: Day One Recap

Last night marked the start of the 22nd Nocturnal Wonderland. Hosted at Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, the weather was much cooler than the last few weeks and much appreciated, as it allowed the fans (known as headliners by Insomniac) to party harder and longer into the night. Last night boasted big EDM artists like Dillon Francis, DJ Mustard, Autograf, Snails, and many more. There were 4 beautiful stages (Wolves Den, Labyrinth, Sunken Garden and Temple Noctem) and 2 more intimate set ups (Boombox Art Car and the Corona Beach hangout which imported fine sand for fest-goers to chill on).

Of course there were the usual features we love from Insomniac, the live art, pyrotechnics, fireworks, dancers, colorful lights and lazers. Overall the layout and production features of the festival were strategically and successfully set up.

As for the artists, some played killer sets, while others were different from what we were expecting based on previous experiences… Mija started her set with a 10-15 minute introduction of steady beats (no drops or intermissions) and zero vocals, which gave the rest of her set an interesting vibe.

Snails didn’t play as much of his infamous vomit-step style, instead playing more mainstream dubstep. Not sure if they were obligated to present their set in a certain light, or if they were trying out something different. Dillon Francis however brought an always awesome set to San Bernardino.  Even with some technical difficulties, Dillon still knows how to get his crowd going.  For example, the crowd went absolutley INSANE when DJ Snake came out to co play with Dillon…in matching outfits.

Overall, Day One was one for the books.  With the smaller crowd size, we found existing the festival not as tedious as it usually is and parking seemed to be flowing for all areas.  Insomniac, as always, presented an incredible day one of Nocturnal and we hope to see you all there for day two!
