COASTAL COUNTRY JAM 2017 RECAP: DAY ONE

COASTAL COUNTRY JAM 2017  RECAP: DAY ONE

COASTAL COUNTRY JAM, closing out Summer 2017 with some of the biggest names in country music in Huntington Beach, CA. Blessed with perfect weather and the best company at the beach on Saturday, California was the place to be. Artists for the day included LANCO, Michael Ray, Eli Young Band, and Old Dominion whom all rocked out on the sand and brought a huge party to the beach.

Coastal Country Jam was set up perfectly with easy access to the stage for both GA and VIP ticket holders.  Unlike any other festival we have attended, this one rented and allowed bean bag seating sections throughout the venue which set the tone for a more relaxing party session then normal.  Attendees had the option to take a break after rocking out to many country acts and lounge on one of these oversized bean bags to recoup while still listening to wonderful music.
The stage was set up with the ocean and sunset just west of the venue and an awesome cat walk for artists to better interact with their fans.  We first arrived as LANCO was getting on stage and the crowd was already loving every minute of the festival by 2:30.  LANCO performed all their hits including “Greatest Love Story” and also did a cover of Alabama’s song “Dixieland Delight”, which had us personally signing at the top of our lungs as this song is a favorite to any true country fan.  After LANCO’s performance the crowd was more then ready for Michael Ray to take the stage.
One particular moment that caught everyone by surprise was actually at the end of Michael Ray’s set when he brought those 2 adorable young cowboys that were front row for his set to sing with him on stage.  Michael Ray gave full access to the young boys allowing them to take a little bit of the stardom and set up a memory that will be with them for their entire lives.  This act of kindness and the vocal chords of a young country star earned this up-and-comer two more fans, and we will be sure to be on the look out for more of his music in the future.

As the afternoon started winding down and the night was just was getting started, it was time for the big guns to take center stage.  Eli Young Band came onto that stage with one purpose, to create an absolutely amazing hour and a half of music that everyone could sing along with and party to.  When the group performed their hit “Saltwater Gospel” the entire venue was just having a great time rocking out.  The band also is credible for strutting their stuff down the cat walk and picking up a few phones from the crowd to take selfie photos with, which had some fans just “dying.”

Finally, the sun had set and the crowd seemed to have grown for Old Dominion.  Everyone waited all day for this moment and when the group ran out onstage, the energy from the band and crowd was at an all-time high.  Lead singer Matthew Ramsey seriously put on a show with his bandmates.  His live vocals were some of the best I have heard from any genre of music.  It literally sounded like we were listening to their songs as we do when they come on the radio, pure perfection.  Along with Matthew’s voice, the rest of the band also had incredible country style sing vocals that would impress anyone.  Their entire set was the perfect way to end Summer and had every attendee loving every minute of it.

If you didn’t get the chance to come to any of the COASTAL COUNTRY JAM concerts this year, make sure you check them out next summer… besides the top notch performers, they have areas for lounging in the shade, a line-dancing tent, Jell-O shooters and a Fireball tent for whiskey-fueled shenanigans. There was a Ferris wheel (“powered” by Bud Light beer), which made for the perfect place to grab a selfie over the Pacific Ocean (with the sunset)! If you stayed through the night, you saw the graceful paragliders during the sunset and felt the cool night breeze come in (AKA bring a change of clothes).
Honestly could not have thought of a better way to end Summer 2017 and welcome Autumn in. Thanks for the memories!
